Now thats thinking - Team 5 Expo

To conclude the end of our inquiry for Term 2 - Now that's thinking, Team 5 put on an expo to show case different things we created to try and make our space in Team 5 better. Some of our best ones were the bag hooks, shoe racks and even indoor games for the cold term up ahead. Take a look at some of our photos.

Samoan Language Week 2017 - Vaiaso o le gagana Samoa

"Ma'au i lou ofaga. Maua'a lou fa'asinomaga" - "Keep your identity alive to thrive"

This was the theme for this years Samoan Language week. Here is a snippet from last weeks assembly. We were honoured to have MP Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga join us. We are so proud of our Junior Samoan group who performed Savalivali. Well done kids! Check them out and don't forget to leave some positive comments.

Year 7's - STEP UP!

Last week the Year 8's went away to camp for 3 days. While they were away the Year 7's took part in a 'Team Building' Step-Up programme. Now that the Year 8's were gone, they needed to be the leaders of the school. In order to do this, they had to work together as a team to complete certain activities as well as encouraging others. Take a look at some of the fun things we did.

Here's some pics we captured while away on our leadership camp this year! Wednesday 26th - Friday 28th May. Our group was slightly smaller this time around but still jam packed with a lot of fun and learning opportunities! We had a range of workshops where our students had to step and out as leaders and active team members.

 Key phrases like 'Build up, positive self talk, service to leadership 'O le ala i le pule o le tautua', show support and we kept a focus on. Why do we have camp? Naturally as year 8 students there is an expectation that students will step up and lead. This camp is support our students to do this. You'll all agree the act of leadership and even teamwork is not something all people do naturally, many of us need to shown and taught this! So camp is where we get to do this together without any distractions! The building of self confidence to stand, speak and participate was developed during camp. We took part in - leading groups around rotations, taking charge in team challenges, showing 'kaha' when we needed to be brave. Being the hosts even during our meal times was a job all teams carried out which included prayers in all our various languages, songs and chants that always made meal time so enjoyable!

Atareita's Water Cycle Animation

Hey there!! This term, team 5 was given a task to create and animate something around the water cycle. So, i did just that. I added extra by creating buttons which go to different cards with transitions. It was quite difficult, but I got through it. So... here is what I have created for my task this term. Taking it back to pen & paper

Yesterdays Maths lesson with Tape Measures group, we looked at finding a fraction of a number. We started by going over our knowledge of fractions and how we solve problems like what is 3/4 of 24? Our group did really well and solved that easily. They were then modelled the steps to solve problems like the one shown in the presentation below. It was quite handy using pen and paper as it made it easier to manipulate numbers and writing fractions. Take a look at our hardworking group and don't forget to leave us a comment! We really enjoyed our maths lesson!

Pacific Poly Pride!

Have you ever been to Polyfest? Polyfest is a festival where different schools perform in a variety of different cultural groups. There are many stages where you can perform such as Samoan, Tongan, Cook Island, Maori, Niuean and more.  Yesterday the Yr 7 & 8’s of P.E.S got the opportunity to go and explore the Polyfest Festival at Manukau Sports Bowl. The first thing we did was go to some of the cool workshops they had at Poly. The workshops were there to teach us and all the other schools about our culture and many more things.  I have to say it was pretty cool. There were some cool performances and delicious food.

One of my highlights would have to be eating all the food. The food was so nice it tasted like heaven. There were Island food, Cook Island donuts, Mango and Strawberry smoothies, ice cream in the pineapple and watermelon, panikeke, otai and many more.  The food was absolutely delicious.  

My second highlight was probably watching the Diversity stage with my group. The diversity stage was very entertaining because I got to see how other cultures perform and express their culture. It was cool seeing an ex-pt englander on the stage performing in the Fijian group.

I think it is important for students to go to Polyfest because they get to go and learn at the new workshops. I think it is important because they get to learn about all the different pacific islands and cultures. I think more schools should go to Polyfest and learn because it is really fun and you learn.

Overall I think the Polyfest was very enjoyable and fun. I learnt heaps from the different workshops and enjoyed every moment. I loved watching the different performances but my favourite part of the day was eating the lovely food. Thank you to Mrs Sio for buying us food!
